This wine is an exquisite blend of 90% Aglianico and 10% Piedirosso. Grown in the old espalie-trained vineyards at 300 meters above sea level, these grapes thrive on calcareous soil of alluvial origin in the Taburno subzone. With a southwest exposure, each vine is carefully managed to produce about 2.4 kg of grapes, limiting the yield to around 60 quintals per hectare.
Tasting Notes
This wine displays an intense ruby-red colour with purplish highlights. The nose reveals intense aromas of fruit in alcohol, sour cherries, and blackberries, complemented by delicate hints of vanilla and chocolate. On the palate, it is elegant and persistent, with a soft and well-orchestrated body. The mature tannic structure adds a slight astringency without bitterness. Aging in barrique during the winemaking process makes this wine perfect for cellaring, allowing spicy overtones to develop over time.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The structured body and rich aromatics of this wine make it an excellent match for braised meats, roasted lamb, and slow-cooked beef stews. Its dark fruit and spicy notes pair beautifully with truffle-infused dishes, aged cheeses, and herb-roasted game meats. The wine’s velvety tannins and elegant persistence also complement tomato-based pasta, grilled sausages, and hearty mushroom risottos. Best enjoyed slightly decanted, this wine is perfect for refined dining and long-aged pairings.
